  • 5 ideas to take better control of your finances πŸ’‘

Taking control of your finances is essential to living a better life. Being in control is positive in a great many number of ways. It means you can prepare better for the future for one, you can make decisions with the right amount of thought rather than acting on impulse, and you will remove a lot of stress from your life. However, the first this you need to do to be in control is to be honest with yourself and your situation. Only through an honest assessment of your current situation can you take control and prepare for a brighter future.

1. Live Within Your Means

Being honest means you have to take stock of the items you buy and determine if they really are suitable for your position. You do not always have to buy branded items at the supermarket, for example. If you are struggling with places to start, the weekly shop is a great place. Experiment with buying cheaper alternatives and thinking about shopping about and going to budget superstores. Also, look for bargains that are easy to find. If you want to have anything, you need to start taking control of the items you buy. Be aware of your spending and possibly create a budget, whatever world for you. Once you have reorganised the basics, then you can work up to larger items like a car you cannot afford or rent that is out of your price range.

2. Reduce Credit Card Use

No one should be using credit cards to cover the shortfall every month. Credit cards are supposed to be used for large purchases or to cover you when something goes wrong. If you already have a credit card debt to pay off, you may be limited for choice if something happens and you need help. So, try and only use what you earn. In some cases, cutting the credit card up may be an option.

3. Shop Around

As well as shopping around for the basics, shop around for cheaper insurances and utilities, for example. Do not stay loyal. It really does not pay to do that. A lot of companies offer great introductory offers, so be sure to do your research.

4. Direct Debits

It is probably a good idea to take a look at your direct debits every once in a while. Are you still paying for that gym membership you never use? Are you still in that catalogue subscription? Cancel any superfluous direct debits and ensure you are out of the associated companies books.

5. Rainy Day Fund

Once you have begun making saving in your everyday life, you can start thinking about saving money. Every penny you put away will help you come some unexpected event. Unexpected events can happen at any time to anyone, so never think it can’t happen to you. Money saved may not solve the issue, but it can give you a cushion buying you time to figure out your next move. You may even need some money to hire great wrongful death lawyers in case something awful happens to your partner.
